Good Enough

This morning, with no school, I had the boys doing a little clean up in the playroom before we moved onto fun stuff. I usually do a short yoga practice before everyone gets up, but took advantage of the day off and slept a little later, so I told them to get to work and I’d check on them when I was done with yoga and stretching.
10 minutes in, Max was repeatedly screaming Mommy loud enough that I had to stop and walk over there to address the crisis. Apparently David was using a Harry Potter voice and wouldn’t stop. Definitely a disaster of epic proportions, right?

So I reset expectations that I did not want to be disturbed unless someone’s arm or leg fell off, there was lots and lots of blood, or there was a large fire. And, I took a few deep breaths and went back to my downward dogs.
Amazingly, that reset worked for the remaining 15 minutes. Was it a perfectly Zen, candles lit, quiet music in the background kind of practice? Nope, not in the least, unless you consider flashing RC car lights barking dogs, and the refrains of “Mooommmyy!!!!!!!” In the background to fit that description. However, they got the playroom slightly more presentable and my back no longer hurts.
Life definitely isn’t perfect, nor are any of us, so let go of unrealistic expectations of perfection and embrace the good enough whenever you can. (I’m speaking to myself here, Jennifer-are you listening?) In case you missed that, JUST OK and DONE are absolutely fine, unless we’re talking about surgery, but that’s a story for another day.
